Sweet Lou II follows his father’s footsteps – Sweet Lou Dunbar, who happens to be one of the most iconic players in the team’s 90-plus year history.
“It means the world to me to be able to be a second generation Globetrotter. Having the opportunity to travel the world and to have the ability to make an impact on people’s lives by putting smiles on their faces like my father did, is an incredible opportunity,” says the 6-foot-3 guard.
His father currently serves as the team’s director of player personnel and head coach, and has been with been with the Globetrotters organization for over 40 years.
Dunbar joins the Harlem Globetrotters following a career at Oklahoma City University where he earned All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors his senior season. As a junior, he racked up nine games with 22-or-more points, including a 50-point outing against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) where Dunbar shot 11-of-14 from three-point range. The Texas native shot better than 40-percent from three-point range in each of his four seasons.
He played his high school career at Clear Falls High in Seabrook, Texas, where he was named the 2012-13 Texas District 24 5A Most Valuable Player and Galveston County’s Player of the Year in 2013. At Clear Falls, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.6 rebounds per game during his senior year.
If he could give young aspiring athletes advice he’d tell them, “never let anyone tell you that you aren’t good enough or can’t do something because there is always a way.”
When he’s not busy playing basketball, he enjoys playing video games, hanging out with family and friends, and playing golf. His younger sister, Ashlynn, is a standout volleyball player at San Diego State University.
